Mountain West Looks to One Western Team to Complete Conference

NCAA Football | Heartland College Sports

The Mountain West Conference continues to maneuver and expand in the wake of the Pac-12 poaching teams from the league, and it seems to have found its members out West — like, way out West — in Hawaii.

According to Brett McMurphy, the Mountain West is working to bring in Hawaii as a full member. Hawaii has been a member of the Mountain West in football since the 2012 season, but is a member of the Big West in non-football sports. The Mountain West needs one more full member to meet the FBS requirements.

This move comes just a couple of weeks after the MWC lost five of its member schools to the Pac-12, as Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, and Utah State all decided to join Oregon State and Washington State.

Last week, it was reported that UNLV and Air Force had decided to stick with the Mountain West after being courted by the Then, on Tuesday, the Pac-12 and AAC, respectively. Then, on Tuesday, the University of Texas El Paso decided to leave Conference USA and become the Mountain West’s seventh full member.

So, with the Miners now on board, Hawaii appears that it could be lucky number eight.
