A tale as old as time: who had the best uniform and helmet combination this week?
Eleven teams from the Big 12 Conference took the field in Week 6, with many new looks to discuss. While multiple teams made a statement with their unique combinations, only one style can top the rest of the league in Week 6. Who earned that honor?
Five teams from the league were on a bye in Week 6, but here were the best looks from the remaining 11 teams.
No. 1 – ARIZONA
In my eyes, the best combination of Week 6 came from the Arizona Wildcats, who brought out a nice American Flag colorway with their helmet logo and accent pieces on the jerseys. The placement may come as a bit of a shock with many solid looks this week, but pound-for-pound, Arizona took home the crown.
No. 2 – OKLAHOMA STATE
Despite an incredibly poor showing on the football field in Week 6, the Cowboys did great stylistically. The script helmet is one of the best helmets in OSU’s wardrobe, and it’s complimented incredibly well by some timeless Oklahoma State jerseys.
No. 3 – ARIZONA STATE
One that may not receive love on the national level, Arizona State’s “maroon monsoon” combination was really eye-catching. The Sun Devils have one of the best logos in all of college sports, and debuting the yellow numbers, accents, and print on the jersey tied the look together.
No. 4 – HOUSTON
Sometimes, there’s beauty in simplicity. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Houston shocked the Big 12 Conference in this specific combination, upsetting TCU 30-19, but then again, maybe it doesn’t. The Cougars’ white-on-white look is simple, classic, and timeless, but it also stands out.
No. 5 – TEXAS TECH
At first glance, Texas Tech’s helmet and uniform combination vs. Arizona appeared to be nothing to write home about, but in the time it took to write this article, the look grew on me. While the white on white is one of my personal favorite looks for any team, the dark red outline in the jersey is what packages the look into a nice, complete look
No. 6 – IOWA STATE
Iowa State did something different with their white-out jerseys, and for that, they deserve some recognition and praise. That being said, the white-out look is way too stormtrooper-ish and somewhat unappealing. Despite that, the look may pave the way for the Cyclones to branch out with their logo and colors, which could pave the way toward some incredible looks in the near future with red and gold.
No. 7 – West Virginia
The No. 7 spot on the list, reserved for West Virginia’s normal away jerseys, is kind of the main staple of the middle portion of the list. Teams ranked above WVU had an overall;l net positive look, while those below did not. West Virginia kept things business casual for their matchup in Stillwater, electing to go with traditional away uniforms and helmets. Nothing to complain about here.
No. 8 – TCU
While TCU’s helmet was an overall positive for the combination, the purple-on-purple did not live up to the hype. The Horned Frogs have shown off a ton of awesome looks in the past, but during the Week 6 loss to Houston, TCU’s look did not crack the top half of the league.
No. 9 – UCF
UCF went classic. It’s hard to find anything bad in the look, but then again, they could have done so much more. The group deserves some benefit from the doubt, as the look was brought back from one of the previous wins over Florida.
No. 10 – KANSAS
Similar to UCF, Kansas went classic—ish. While teams like Arizona State pulled off the monochrome look, Kansas sort of punted this one. The blue-on-blue is fine but not great. When facing off with the Sun Devils in one of the hottest games played in recent history, Kansas lost the jersey matchup to Kenny Dillingham’s squad.
No. 11 – BAYLOR
Without question, Baylor had the worst look of any team in Week 6. The all-green look leaves much to be desired at a program that has had loads of unique uniform and helmet combinations in its history. Iowa State, who checked in at No. 6 on the list, significantly outshined Baylor with their white-out night and left the Bears look in the rear-view mirror.
