Following a disastrous loss to the Houston Cougars in Week 6 of the 2024 college football season, TCU head coach Sonny Dykes is starting to catch some strays.
On Sunday, the ActionNetwork’s Brett McMurphy highlighted a rough stretch of games for Dykes, on par with USC’s Lincoln Riley.
In the last 12 games of his career, Dykes holds a 5-7 record in that stretch, as does Auburn’s Hugh Freeze, Florida’s Billy Napier, Arkansas’ Sam Pittman, and USC’s Lincoln Riley.
TCU’s five wins over the 12-game period have come against Kansas, LIU, Stanford, Baylor, and BYU. The losses have stacked up in plenty against Houston, SMU, UCF, No. 15 Oklahoma, No. 3 Texas, Texas Tech, and No. 18 Kansas State.
While Dykes gained a tremendous amount of respect for leading the Horned Frogs to a 13-2 season in his first year with the program, capped off by an appearance in the 2022 National Championship Game, things have not been great since. Dykes holds an overall record of 8-10 and a 4-8 conference record since the conclusion of the 2022 season.
Now, in 2024, Dykes has continued to struggle. TCU currently sits in 13th place in the Big 12 Conference with an overall record of 3-3 and a 1-2 conference record. Following the Horned Frogs’ 30-19 loss to Houston, Dykes’ group has the week off to rest and recover.
When they resume play in Week 8, TCU will face the daunting task of clashing with No. 16 Utah.
