Bettors Quickly Drive Up Spread in BYU vs. Arizona Game

NCAA Football: Kansas State at Brigham Young

The Week 7 slate is filled to the brim with key matchups all across college football, and the Big 12 is no exception.

One of the bigger games in the league for this week is happening up in Provo, as the undefeated BYU Cougars (5-0) take on an up-and-down Arizona (3-2) squad that is coming off a disappointing loss to Texas Tech in Week 6.

The Cougars, who are coming off a bye, opened as a 3.5-point favorite in the matchup, but bettors are pushing the number up quickly.

As of Tuesday, the line has swelled to 5.5 points in BYU’s favor just a couple of days after it opened. With the Cougars getting just 53% of the tickets placed on them, that means that the early money — and the big money — is going on the home team.

LaVell Edwards Stadium is a scary place to play, and particularly at night, but it’s hard to see how the line would swell much further on this game considering it’s scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT (FOX). The Cougars historically struggle in day games, and Arizona has been rather unpredictable this season.

One more win would move BYU to 6-0 and bowl-eligible, which would be a huge accomplishment to this point in the season, considering where they were projected to finish before the season started.
