A faculty member at the University of Kansas is in hot water after a video of him went viral on social media on Wednesday.
In the video, which was taken sometime during the 2024 fall semester, a professor giving a lecture to students suggested that any man who wouldn’t vote for Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential election, on the basis that she is a woman, should be lined up and shot.
The video, which was shared by Ned Ryun on Twitter, has over 2 million views and counting as of Wednesday afternoon.
“(If you think) guys are smarter than girls, you’ve got some serious problems,” the professor said. “That’s what frustrates me. There are going to be some males in our society that will refuse to vote for a potential female president because they don’t think females are smart enough to be president. We could line all those guys up and shoot them. They clearly don’t understand the way the world works.
“Did I say that? Scratch that from the recording. I don’t want the deans hearing that I said that.”
While the University of Kansas wouldn’t disclose the speaker’s identity, it did confirm that the video was taken during a class this semester.
“We are aware of the video, which was recorded during a class earlier this semester,” said Erinn Barcomb-Peterson, a KU spokesperson. “The instructor is being placed on administrative leave, pending further investigation. The instructor offers his sincerest apologies and deeply regrets the situation. His intent was to emphasize his advocacy for women’s rights and equality, and he recognizes he did a very poor job of doing so. The university has an established process for situations like this and will follow that process.”
The University also released this statement on Twitter in response to the situation.
