Kenny Dillingham and the Arizona State Sun Devils are off to one of the most surprising starts in college football. Arizona State beat Utah 27-19 on Friday night and after the game, as the fan stormed the field, head coach Kenny Dillingham had the best postgame press conference of the 2024 college football season.
Check it out below as Dillingham reminds America he’s not all that far removed from being one of those fans who was cheering and celebrating in the background, and now he’s the head coach.
Dillingham is living out the dream in Tempe, where he grew up and is an alum.
Dillingham began his coaching career at 17 years old, after he tore his ACL during his senior year. He started off working with the junior varsity team at Chaparral High School before being promoted to the offensive coordinator of the varsity team at 21 years old. While he was coaching at Chaparral, he went to Arizona State, graduating in 2012 with a degree in interdisciplinary studies. He was hired to be an offensive assistant at Arizona State in 2014 under offensive coordinator Mike Norvell, whom he had met while coaching at Chaparral.
From there, his career was off to the races, following Norvell to Memphis, before making stops at Auburn and Oregon, and then returning to Arizona State, where he is in his second season as head coach.
Dillingham and the Sun Devils travel to face Cincinnati next Saturday in Week 8 of the college football season.
