Big 12 Basketball Dominates Top of 2024-25 Preseason AP Poll

NCAA Basketball: Kansas at Indiana

The college basketball season is set to begin later this month and Big 12 teams can be found up and down the preseason Top 25 AP Poll.

There are five Big 12 teams ranked in the Top 10 and six ranked in the Top 25. The Kansas Jayhawks lead the way at No. 1 in the preseason AP Poll with 30 first-place votes, well ahead of No. 2 Alabama (14).

The back-to-back defending national champion UConn Huskies check at No. 3 in the initial AP Poll, receiving 11 first-place votes, placing them just ahead of the next Big 12 team on the list — Kelvin Sampson’s Houston Cougars.

The Coogs come in at No. 4 in the AP Poll with four first-place votes and are followed by Iowa State, who checks in at No. 5 after finishing as the No. 8 team in the country last season.

Scott Drew’s Baylor Bears gives the Big 12 four of the nation’s top eight teams, coming in at No. 8, and the Arizona Wildcats make it five of ten with the No. 10 spot in the initial poll.

Then, after a run to the NIT quarterfinals a season ago, the Cincinnati Bearcats come in at No. 20 in the AP poll, bringing the Big 12’s total to six teams.

Four Big 12 teams were also among teams receiving votes, with Texas Tech (58), Kansas State (30), BYU (14), and Arizona State (2) all making an appearance.
