Look: Kansas Basketball Shares Sneak Peak of Renovated Allen Fieldhouse

One of the best venues in college sports got a bit better this offseason with the Kansas Jayhawks renovating the historic Allen Fieldhouse.

Fans got a sneak peek of some of the upgrades on social media Monday afternoon, with KU Athletics sharing some photos.

The upgrades shown received some heavy backlash from fans in the comment section, with many concerned that the venue would lose 1,000 available seats for fans to utilize on gameday.

“There is no other venue in sport with more history and energy than Allen Fieldhouse,” Kansas AD Travis Goff said. “Going forward, we are incredibly excited for our supporters to couple the building’s tradition with an unrivaled game-day experience. Extensive scrutiny, thoughtfulness, and attention to detail have gone into the renovation plan, and we are very confident our fans will enjoy the enhanced amenities and experience while continuing to appreciate the aura they have always loved about Allen Fieldhouse.”

The 1,000-seat reduction Kansas fans refer to in the comment section stems from an official release stating that Allen Fieldhouse’s capacity would drop from 16,300 to 15,300 due to a new look for the top two levels and the video board seen in the photos above.

The project was accomplished through a “$50 million project funded by generous Kansas Athletics supporters.”

While the legendary venue may not receive the initial reaction that the program envisioned, once fans are back in AFH, they will likely get a better feel up close for the major project.
