With Week 7 of the college football season officially in the books, the Big 12 Conference announced four players that would be taking home the seventh iteration of the Big 12 Football Weekly Awards for the 2024 season.
Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo took home the title of Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, Skattebo’s teammate Caleb McCullough earned DPOW honors, Utah’s Cole Becker was named Special Teams Player of the Week, and Cincinnati’s Jake Golday took home Newcomer of the Week.
Following an 182-yard performance in a Week 6 win over Kansas, Cam Skattebo did it again with another stellar display. The California native posted 158 yards and two scores in a major upset win over No. 16 Utah. Skattebo’s usage this season has impacted Arizona State greatly as the program finds itself deep in the race for Arlington.
Arizona State linebacker Caleb McCullough was instrumental in the Sun Devils upset over then-ranked Utah, recording 12 tackles, two interceptions, and one-and-a-half tackles for a loss. With his performance, McCullough became the first Sun Devil with two interceptions against a Power Four opponent since 2019 and tallied his 12 total tackles in just 49 snaps last week.
Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, Jake Golday, put on an impressive showing vs. UCF. He posted five tackles, two for a loss, one sack, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. The Bearcats forced multiple turnovers vs. UCF in a game that saw the Knights struggle greatly offensively. With the win, Cincinnati propelled themselves to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
One of the biggest special teams performances of the week took place in a loss for the Utah Utes in Week 7 vs. Arizona State. Senior kicker Cole Becker connected on four field goals in the 27-19 loss, which was the most kicks made by a Utah placekicker since 2018. With the big outing, Becker’s four field goals were the second most in a Big 12 game this season.
