According to a report from Action Network’s Brett McMurphy, Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark was recently contacted by a search firm who was looking for the new CEO for LIV Golf.
Not to worry, though, Big 12 fans — McMurphy also reports that a source said “the call lasted only 1 minute,” and that “there was no interest on Yormark’s part.
Yormark was reportedly contacted a few months ago about the potential gig, but seeing as how we hadn’t heard anything about it until now, there really isn’t any reason to fret about him potentially leaving his post.
Since taking over as Big 12 Commissioner, Yormark has made a name for himself as one of the most forward-thinking and revolutionary minds in college football.
He’s certainly built a strong following for himself among those who work with him, as coaches and athletic directors across the conference can’t seem to say enough good things about Yormark.
A report from the Sports Business Journal on Tuesday corroborates McMurphy’s report, too, and also seems to say the conversations weren’t fruitful.
“Though handled quietly, the search firm has looked to well-regarded executives in sports business for the position, with names including Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark among those targeted early on, according to sources,” Josh Carpenter writes. “Talks with Yormark did not progress, but it shows the level of executive PIF has been targeting.”
It appears the Big 12’s head man is content to say right where he is and help keep the Big 12 one of the best conference in college athletics — and that’s great news for the people around him.
