After a 28-16 win over West Virginia in Week 7, the Iowa State Cyclones (6-0, 3-0) are off to the program’s best start since the 1938 season.
Matt Campbell’s group entered the 2024 season as a bit of a question mark, but slowly and steadily, Iowa State has climbed the ladder of Big 12 contenders to the top.
The Cyclones are set to host UCF this week and will have a bye in Week 9 before picking up the rest of the regular season in November — and from the looks of it, there could be a lot on the line.
Iowa State not only has its sights set on a trip to Arlington (TX) for a Big 12 Championship, but also appears to be the league’s front runner to grab a College Football Playoff berth as well.
According to BetOnline.ag, the Cyclone chances of making the CFP — and winning it — are on the rise.
As of Tuesday afternoon, ISU is +130 to make the 12-team Playoff, which gives them the 13th-best odds of all teams.
Meanwhile, Iowa State’s odds of winning it all have risen significantly as well, coming up from 125/1 (+12500) to 75/1 (+7500).
A quick peek at the schedule reveals that the Cyclones are favored in every game the rest of the way, and a 12-0 record heading into the Big 12 Championship would almost guarantee them an at-large spot if they were to lose.
But, it’s way too early to suggest that any team in this league is going to run the table. After all, there are only two teams left without a loss through six games.
