Even though we are just seven weeks into the college football season, that doesn’t mean we can’t look ahead to the future. There is still a lot of season left ahead of us, but it is never too early to start thinking about the postseason.
Jerry Palm from CBS Sports recently released his latest college football bowl projections. It is always interesting to see how things change from week to week but here is what he currently has listed for the Big 12.
Fiesta Bowl (CFP)
Iowa State vs. First-Round Winner
The Cyclones are the new favorite in the Big 12, according to Palm, and rightfully so. They are in the top ten in the latest AP Poll and look like the best team in the Big 12. There is no other team in the conference as complete as Iowa State.
CFP First Round
BYU at Penn State
Despite being picked to finish second, BYU has a legitimate shot at finishing the regular season undefeated when you look at their schedule. And if they get into the conference title game, who knows what could happen?
Texas Bowl
Oklahoma State vs. LSU
I am sorry but the Cowboys would be lucky to get this bowl bid because they would be lucky to even make a bowl game with the way they have played this season.
Sun Bowl
Arizona State vs. Syracuse
Hello, Sun Devils! For the first time this season they are on the bowl list and what an accomplishment this would be for head coach Kenny Dillingham. Don’t be surprised to see this team climb up the bowl list.
Alamo Bowl
Kansas State vs. USC
Can you hear that? If you listen closely, you can hear Lincoln Riley making excuses for why his team lost this game.
Pop-Tarts Bowl
Texas Tech vs. Notre Dame
This is a very interesting matchup for the Red Raiders and could be one of those program-changing wins for Joey McGuire. Texas Tech is still very much in the thick of the Big 12 title race, so who knows where they will end up during bowl season?
Holiday Bowl
Utah vs. Pitt
In just one week, Utah goes from a playoff spot to the Holiday Bowl. Honestly, I wouldn’t be shocked to see them move down even further because I am not sure they’ll make a bowl game with Cam Rising out for the year.
Liberty Bowl
West Virginia vs. Arkansas
I feel like this could a rivalry game because there are some similarities between the fan bases. I also wonder if both Neal Brown and Sam Pittman will be coaching if these two meet up. It wouldn’t shock me to see either one of them get canned.
Guaranteed Rate Bowl
TCU vs. Rutgers
This matchup is about as exciting as watching paint dry. Rutgers has to be one of the last Power Four programs any fan base would be excited to play.
Los Angeles Bowl
Arizona vs UNLV
What a downgrade for the Wildcats. Some thought they could be a Big 12 title contender, and here they are in a lowly bowl game. The good news is that it wouldn’t be a bad drive from Tucson to Los Angeles.
