We’ve seen wild games all across college football this season already, and the Big 12 has provided its fair share of them.
One-possession games are a weekly occurrence in this league, and coming out on the right side of those games is vital to making a run to Arlington.
Some Big 12 teams have found a knack for winning such game, and through the first seven weeks of the season, it has them in position to make that run. However, there are also teams in the Big 12 that can’t seem to find a way to win one-score games, and it’s already killed their season.
Kelley Ford, creator of the KFord Ratings, recently shared a graph showing how each team has fared in one-possession and overtime games this season, and there are Big 12 teams way out on both sides of the scale.
Nobody in the country has been better in one-score and overtime games than Texas Tech, who carries a 4-0 record in such games into Week 8. Meanwhile, Arizona State is the only other team in college football to have four wins, with a 4-1 record to this point.
Meanwhile, the league also has a team that is on the other end of the spectrum in these sorts of games, and their season is absolutely wrecked already. After seven weeks, the Kansas Jayhawks are the worst team in the country in one-score and overtime games, carrying an 0-4 record into Week 8.
At 1-5 overall, Kansas can only afford one loss the rest of the way in order to make a bowl game, and their schedule looks anything but forgiving.
Here’s a look at every Big 12 team’s record in one-score or OT games, according to KFord:
