BYU vs. Oklahoma State Prediction, Odds, How to Watch

NCAA Football: Brigham Young at Arkansas

With Week 7 of the 2024 college football season in the books, we now turn and look ahead to the Week 8 slate.

One of the week’s biggest games rests in the Big 12 Conference, with Friday night’s matchup between 13th-ranked BYU and Oklahoma State.

BYU Football vs. Oklahoma State Football Key Storylines

BYU‘s football program has been one of the nation’s best stories in 2024, with Kalani Sitake‘s group sitting at a perfect 6-0. In Week 7, the Cougars added another blowout win to their resume after dismantling Arizona 41-19. The squad now holds wins over Southern Illinois, No. 21 SMU, Wyoming, No. 17 Kansas State, Baylor, and Arizona.

BYU is led by a defense that has been one of the best in the nation so far, and is second in the Big 12 Conference in allowing only 16 points per game. Offensively, BYU is third in the Big 12 in scoring at 34.3 points per game so far in the 2024 season.

On the opposite side of the field, Oklahoma State has had a disastrous start to the season. After notching three straight wins over non-conference opponents of South Dakota State, Arkansas, and Tulsa, the team has taken a nose dive in league play. Oklahoma State is tied for last place in the league with Kansas and Baylor after dropping each of their first three games vs. Utah, No. 17 Kansas State, and West Virginia.

Oklahoma State is led by star running back Ollie Gordon, who has struggled to get going this season. Gordon has 384 rushing yards through six games this season and is averaging 3.8 yards per carry. He’s averaging 64 yards per game, compared to 124 rushing yards per game during the 2023 college football season.

Oklahoma State vs. BYU Prediction and Storylines

Oklahoma State is coming off a much-needed bye week, and even though Mike Gundy got head-butted by a cow over the weekend, the hope is that a week off rekindled some fire for the Pokes. Unfortunately, there’s not a place in the Big 12 that is tougher to go and play right now than Provo — let alone for a 9:15 p.m. CT kick on Friday night. BYU has forced eight turnovers in three home games this season, and its defense looks like the best unit Oklahoma State has faced so far this season. Even though Mike Gundy typically finds a way to win these games, the Cougars squandered a huge lead in Stillwater last season that cost them a bowl berth. They’ll have revenge on their minds this time around.
