Big 12 basketball has put itself in a separate stratosphere over the last several seasons, and it’s depth as a league will only grow in 2024-25.
Adding a perennial March Madness monster to a league with programs like Kansas, Houston, Iowa State, Baylor, Kansas State, and Texas Tech makes the Big 12 gauntlet that much more difficult.
Coaches in and around the league are excited to get the season underway and see where they stack up, and the good news is any team in the Big 12 that has national title hopes will be plenty battle-tested by the time the Big Dance rolls around.
Hell, the point can be made that winning the Big 12 Tournament should automatically make the victor a one-seed in the NCAA Tournament with the onslaught of talented teams they’ve got to get through to reach the mountain top.
Kansas State head coach Jerome Tang made a comment on Friday, per Jon Rothstein, that perfectly encapsulates just how difficult the Big 12 will be in 2024 and beyond.
That is a quote for the ages, but it’s also 100% true. The 16-team Big 12 looks to have close to double-digit NCAA Tournament teams in the upcoming season, including five teams in the top 10 of the AP Preseason Poll.
There’s no place like the Big 12 when it’s basketball season, and it won’t be much longer before thing get going on the court.
