While most transfer portal stories aren’t written in the middle of the season, the case for UTSA running back transfer Rocko Griffin appears to be unique.
After taking the field twice in 2024 at UTSA, Griffin announced his decision to enter the transfer portal upon opening.
Griffin started his career with the Vanderbilt Commodores and stayed with the programs for three seasons before electing to join UTSA in 2023. Throughout his five-year career, the Georgia native has recorded a total of 299 carries for 1,222 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Since entering the transfer portal this week, as noted by On3’s Pete Nakos, Griffin has been in contact with five major programs: Tulane, Georgia State, Florida Atlantic, Duke, and Arizona.
Coming out of South Effingham High School in the Class of 2020, Griffin was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 1123rd-ranked player. He also checked in as the 73rd-ranked player at his position and the 112th-ranked player in the state of Georgia.
As for Arizona’s rushing attack, the team hasn’t been very effective this fall. While Griffin wouldn’t join the team until the 2025 season, Brent Brennan’s group could use more depth at the position. Through six games in 2024, the team ranks 11th in the Big 12 Conference with 140.8 rushing yards per game.
