One fact that most college football fans have come to realize is that the Big 12 is America’s college football conference, with some of the most exciting games around the country.
To quantify that, analytics guru Kelley Ford released his watchability rankings for the final six weeks of the season, which includes the majority of Big 12 teams in his top 30.
Eleven teams from the Big 12 Conference are ranked inside Ford’s Top 30, significantly more than any other Power Conference. The Big Ten trails the Big 12 with eight ranked teams, followed by the SEC with seven, and the ACC comes in fourth.
While the Big Ten and the SEC have swindled viewership away from leagues like the Big 12 for years, eyes in the national media appear to be turning more and more to the league. Largely in part due to former commissioner Bob Bowlsby and current Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark for identifying the right additions through expansion, the league survived the loss of Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC and is bringing in more eyes than ever before.
The eight new additions of Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston, UCF, and Utah over the past two seasons have all contributed significantly to the league’s growth as Yormark continues to push the football product to new heights.
While watchability rankings may not rule the football world consistently, one fact remains true: If you turn on a Big 12 football game this season, you’re in for a damn good time.
