With Week 7 of the 2024 college football season in the books, we now turn and look ahead to the Week 8 slate.
One of the week’s biggest games rests in the Big 12 Conference, with Saturday night’s matchup between 17th-ranked Kansas State and West Virginia.

Chris Klieman and the Kansas State Wildcats have quickly established themselves as a serious Big 12 title contender in 2024 as well as a threat to reach the College Football Playoff. After suffering a tough loss to ninth-ranked BYU in Provo, Kansas State’s offense has flourished with sophomore signal caller Avery Johnson at the helm. The Wildcats currently hold a 2-1 conference record with wins over then-ranked Oklahoma State and Colorado and a 5-1 overall record.
On the opposite side of the field, West Virginia’s football product has been inconsistent. After a slow start in 2024, Neal Brown finds himself nearing the hot seat in the eyes of Mountaineers fans, despite holding the same conference record as Kansas State. After taking down Kansas and Oklahoma State in back-to-back weeks, West Virginia dropped a tough game to No. 9 Iowa State. The Mountaineers must bounce back against yet another Top 25 team at home.

Prediction for Kansas State vs. West Virginia
While K-State is 5-1 on the year, their road trips haven’t exactly been without major hurdles. The Wildcats needed comebacks to beat Tulane and Colorado on the road, and their trip to Provo ended in a blowout at the hands of BYU. This week, the Cats head to Morgantown to take on a tough West Virginia team that’s in desperate need of a win. As much as I believe Kansas State is the better team, I just don’t like the thought of them having to face the Mountaineers on the road just a week after an emotional win over the Buffaloes. West Virginia picks up the win of the weekend here, and pulls even with K-State at 2-2 in Big 12 play.
