The Utah Utes announced the resignation of offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig, who had held that role for the football program since the 2019 season.
“Assistant coach Andy Ludwig has made the decision to step down from his position with Utah football,” Utes coach Kyle Whittingham said in a statement. “Andy is the consummate professional and we want to thank him for his complete dedication to our program during his 10 total seasons with us. Coach Ludwig has been instrumental to our success here at Utah and personally, I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Andy as both a coach and a person. We wish him nothing but the best in all of his future endeavors.”
Ludwig’s resignation comes after Utah lost 13-7 at home to TCU on Saturday night. The Utes had 267 total yards in the loss and were 2-of-15 on third downs.
Utah’s Big 12 Offensive Woes
Utah has been one of the worst offensive teams in the Big 12 Conference this season. In four Big 12 games, Utah is averaging 14.5 points per game, which is 15th of 16 Big 12 teams. The Utes also rank 13th in total yards per game at 359, 12th in rushing yards per game at 135, and 10th in passing yards per game at 224.
Utah’s offensive efficiency is 100.1, which is dead last in the Big 12, according to the conference’s official statistics.
The Utes have had to deal with more injury issues for Cam Rising at quarterback, which has led to freshman Isaac Wilson getting plenty of reps this season. But even with changes at QB, the offense has been stagnant in basically every facet of the game.
The Utes have lost three consecutive games to drop to 4-3 overall and 1-3 in the Big 12. The preseason Big 12 favorites have seen their chances of reaching a Big 12 Championship go up in flames in recent weeks.
Utah travels to take on Houston this weekend for Week 9 of the college football season.
