While fans of the Utah Utes expected the program to run through the Big 12 toward a College Football Playoff bid with ease during its inaugural Big 12 season, that has not been the case through eight weeks.
Utah sits with a conference record of 1-3 through four conference games, and following a brutal loss to TCU on Saturday night, one of the Utes’ stars spoke up on social media.
Utah wide receiver Dorian Singer posted a cryptic story on his Instagram after the loss with two words and a blurry image, “Wasted talent.”
Singer has been one of the best offensive playmakers for Kyle Whittingham’s squad in 2024, leading the team in catches and receiving yards. The Minnesota native has posted 33 grabs for 486 yards in his senior season despite dealing with some injuries and turnover at the quarterback position.
After being picked as the preseason favorite to win the Big 12 in the Preseason Media Poll, Utah has fallen off a massive cliff since the start of the regular season. The team was ranked as high as No. 10 at one point this fall and now sits three games out of first place.
The Utes aren’t the only team to underperform preseason expectations, as four of the five teams selected to finish in the Top 5 of the preseason poll hold a combined conference record of 3-13 record, with Kansas State (3-1) being the lone expectation.
While Singer may not be happy with the start of Utah’s 2024 season, he will have to find a way to help the offense get back on track in Week 9 if he hopes for a change of fate. After scoring just seven points against TCU, it’s fair to say the Utes have wasted much more talent than just Dorian Singer.
