Ahead of the Week 9 matchup between Kansas and No. 16 Kansas State, Lance Leipold and the Jayhawks released an update on the status of one of their key offensive playmakers.
According to a report from Wave the Wheat’s Matt Tait, Kansas running back Daniel Hishaw Jr. is “highly questionable” for the 2024 Sunflower Showdown.
“Running back Daniel Hishaw Jr. is highly questionable for this week’s game,” Tait said. “He re-aggravated an injury that bothered him earlier this season, and Hishaw was not in action at practice today.”
Hishaw is a major factor in the Jayhawks’ two-headed monster in the backfield with the running back tandem of himself and Devin Neal. In 2024, Hishaw is averaging 6.4 yards per carry with 50 carries for 318 yards and three scores.
His backfield teammate, Devin Neal, will be asked to step up as the main ball carrier vs. Kansas State, a team surrendering the least amount of rushing yards per game in the Big 12 Conference (83.1). Neal ranks sixth in conference rushing yards with 692 on the season.
While Kansas may enter the matchup down one key member of their offensive attack, rivalry games tend to be close contests regardless of who takes the field.
Kansas State hosts the Jayhawks as 10-point favorites on Saturday, October 26th at 7:00 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
