Mike Norvell Out, Deion Sanders In? Barstool’s Big Cat is On Board!

In a recent interview with On3’s Andy Staples and Ari Wasserman, Barstool Sports’ Dan ‘Big Cat’ Katz gave an interesting take surrounding one coach in the Big 12 Conference.

Big Cat mentioned that he believes Colorado’s Deion Sanders would be a good replacement at Florida State if the program intends to go in a different direction from Mike Norvell.

“Florida State’s in a lot of trouble too, because Mike Norvell,” Big Cat said. “I know that people will say I’m biased here, but doesn’t it feel like Florida State has the magic bullet if they need it, and it’s to just get Deion Sanders?”

While Deion Sanders was written off as a successful head coach by a large number of media members after his 4-8 start at Colorado, the 2024 season has been a different story. The Buffaloes are planted firmly in the Big 12 title race with an overall record of 5-2 and 3-1, with the lone conference loss being to No. 16 Kansas State by a field goal.

“Colorado is a lot better than people think this year,” Big Cat continued. “Travis Hunter, I should legally say, should be Heisman. I know that he’s got to get a couple more stats going, but I do have a 40-1 ticket on him, so I say it on every show I go on. But I feel like you have that just hanging out there. And I don’t know if Deion would want to go to Florida State. I know there were probably some bad feelings last time around when they had an opening. I don’t know what he’s going to do when Shedeur leaves, all this stuff, but at least you have the hope of, ‘Oh, that guy could maybe fix it and bring us to the modern era.’ Whereas Auburn doesn’t feel that way, Oklahoma really doesn’t feel that way.”

Florida State, on the other hand, is in the dumps. Despite being picked as a preseason Top 10 team, the Seminoles are 1-6 overall with one win over California, 14-9.

While it’s tough to say what the future looks like for both Mike Norvell and Deion Sanders for different reasons, Sanders holds the keys to his future as his brand, marketing, and impressive coaching style have him as a lead candidate for just about any job opening in the country.
