There aren’t many teams in the country that have had as good a start to the 2024 season as Kalani Sitake and the BYU Cougars. After a 38-35 win over Oklahoma State on Friday night, the Cougs are now 7-0 (4-0 Big 12) and ranked as the No. 11 team in the country.
However, the folks in Vegas just aren’t ready to hop on the BYU hype train just yet. At least, that appears to be the case when looking at the most recent College Football Playoff odds at BetOnline.ag.
After the first eight weeks of the season, BYU has climbed all the way up to 250/1 odds to win the 12-team playoff, but that only gives them the 21st-best odds.
In fact, it appears that the Cougars don’t even rank among the top three Big 12 teams in odds to win the CFP National Championship.
Just ahead of the Cougars with the 20th-best odds (200/1) is Colorado, who is fresh off a 34-7 win over Arizona. Last week, Colorado was at 500/1 odds, so their jump after this past week was significant to get them in the top 20.
Up a few more spots and tied for the 16th-best odds in the country is Kansas State, which comes in with 100/1 odds. The Wildcats are coming off a 45-18 win over West Virginia in Morgantown and looked as dominant as the score would suggest.
Iowa State is the top Big 12 team in terms of CFP odds, with 66/1 odds after being 75/1 odds last week. The Cyclones escaped an upset bid by UCF and came out on top in a 38-35 thriller in Ames.
