After suffering a broken foot in the 2024 NIT Tournament, senior forward Day Day Thomas underwent surgery and embarked on a grueling recovery process.

While the bulk of the recovery process has gone well to this point, Thomas suffered a setback in Cincinnati’s practice on Tuesday that sparked some concern.

On Wednesday in Kansas City, our Matthew Postins asked Cincinnati head coach Wes Miller for an update on Thomas’ injury, which provided some insight into the situation.

“He had a broken foot in the NIT last year, had surgery, and everything went exactly according to plan, all the way up to practice yesterday,” Miller said. “I don’t think it’s serious, but he had a little bit of a setback on the foot. Again, it’s not serious, but just out of precaution, we held him back to do treatment today. I think it’s a day-to-day thing, so nothing to be alarmed about. But you know, this media day is not quite as important as getting ready for our season, and we’ll monitor what’s going on day-to-day. But we didn’t think it was serious. But (there was) a little bit of discomfort in that foot. So we’re just trying to be safe.”

In 2023-24, Thomas was a double-digit scorer for Cincinnati, posting 10.4 points, 3.3 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per game. Thomas received offers from 12 different programs after spending time in JUCO at Kilgore J.C. but decided that Wes Miller and the Bearcats was the perfect destination.

While the injury setback doesn’t sound as serious as initially believed, his injury timeline will still be a major story to follow ahead of the 2024-25 season tipoff.
