The 2025 NFL Draft is still several months away, but make no mistake — NFL General Managers and scouting personnel are already diving into film study and weighing the pros and cons of the ’25 class.
If the draft were to start today, the New England Patriots (1-6) would have the first overall pick after losing each of their last six games, while the Carolina Panthers (1-6) and Cleveland Browns (1-6) are currently allotted to have the No. 2 and No. 3 picks.
There are still five weeks left in the 2024 college football regular season and an entire 12-team College Football Playoff to work through, so things could change in a major way, but as of now, the first two players off the board would come from the same team.
The Big 12 hasn’t had a No. 1 overall pick since 2018 — when Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray went to Arizona with the first pick — and hasn’t had the first two picks in the draft since 2010. However, the Colorado Buffaloes could be the team to change that for the league.
According to BetOnline.ag, the Buffs’ dynamic duo of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter are the betting favorites to be taken with the first overall pick.
Sanders, who has been among the best signal-callers in college football this season, is the favorite at 9/2 (+450) odds, while Hunter — his favorite target — has the second-best odds of anyone at 13/2 (+650).

Odds are that the first overall pick will be a quarterback, as eight of the last ten first overall picks have been quarterbacks, while the other two were defensive ends. 18 of the previous 25 NFL Draft classes had a quarterback taken with the No. 1 overall pick.
