Oklahoma State Quarterback’s Dad Shares Son’s Future Plans

NCAA Football: Oklahoma State at Central Michigan

For many Oklahoma State football fans, they’re unfortunately looking ahead to the 2025 season due to the 0-4 start in Big 12 play. But the good news is that one of their potential future starting quarterbacks has no plans to go anywhere.

In a conversation with The O’Colly, Zane Flores‘ father, Mel, told the school newspaper, “Zane isn’t going anywhere — he loves Oklahoma State. He fully intends to stay and compete for the starting job in the spring, and hopefully do some big things with that opportunity.”

Oklahoma State fans can breath a sigh of relief.

Flores went down for the season two weeks ago with a lower-leg injury that required surgery. Flores is a former three-star prospect who burst onto the scene late in his high school career. He picked Oklahoma State over Kansas State, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa State and Memphis, along with a late push from his in-state program, Nebraska.

But with Oklahoma State set to move on from Alan Bowman, who is in his seventh season of college football eligibility, it will likely be an open quarterback battle in Stillwater come the spring, when Flores is likely to compete with Garret Rangel for the starting job.

In the meantime, Oklahoma State tries to pick up its first Big 12 win of the season on Saturday when it travels to play Baylor in Week 9 of the college football season.
