On Saturday, Texas Tech kicker Reese Burkhardt made headlines with a unique touchdown celebration.
After pulling off a successful trick play on a fake field goal attempt, the Red Raiders’ kicker scrambled to the end zone for a score, where he elected to make a political statement.
Upon finding the end zone, Burkhardt pulled up his jersey to show an undershirt that reads, “Trump ‘24 MAGA.”
The play made headlines for the political commentary but also gave Joey McGuire’s group a crucial conversion in the red zone. With Burkhardt’s play, Texas Tech cut the TCU lead to four points before mounting a second-quarter rally to take the lead.
In 2024, the Alabama native has made 100% of his kicks with 19 kicking points on the year. His season-long kick of 41 yards came in a Week One overtime win vs. Abilene Christian.
It didn’t take long for the play to start trending on social media, with thousands of media members chiming in on the action.
