While not all stories are able to come full circle, Kansas State basketball coach Jerome Tang gave his best effort in attempting to stop the “F*** KU” chant.
On Saturday night in Manhattan, during K-State’s 16th consecutive win in the Sunflower Showdown, Tang attempted to lead fans in a chant without swearing.
Prior to the start of the Week 9 matchup, Tang posted a response on X to a viral video of Kansas State fans chanting “F*** KU.”
The video from Trog Leroy on X caught some steam on the social media app, which triggered Tang’s response to the situation. The Wildcats head coach responded to the caption “Sorry, Coach Tang, but today is the exception” with a gif that reads “Do not want.”
Despite the valiant effort, Tang laughed off the situation after a mixed bag of responses. The mixture of “K-S-U” and “F*** KU” meshed in a 50/50 clash that resulted in Tang stepping down as chant leader for the evening with a noticeable laugh.
On the football field, the Wildcats handled business and survived a possible upset from their in-state rivals, 29-27. Kansas State advanced to 7-1 this fall, while Kansas fell to 2-6.
