On Sunday, Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks wound up on the losing end of an exhibition match vs. Arkansas.
In the game, one new transfer for Kansas, AJ Storr, struggled enough for Self to discuss his play at length in a Monday press conference.
“I think I have AJ messed up at the moment because he doesn’t know what aggressive looks like,” Self said. “Like, be aggressive. Move the ball. That contradicts the two things. Be aggressive in 0.5 rules. Pass it, shoot it, or drive it within 0.5.”
In the contest, Storr went 4-11 from the field with eight points, three personal fouls, and three total rebounds. These numbers contributed to Storr’s +/- efficiency rating of -11. The team as a whole struggled in the 85-69 loss, shooting 29-64 (45.3%) from the field, 7-23 from three (30.4%), and 40% from the free throw line.
“That’s not on him as much as it is on us getting him to understand that you can do both,” Self continued. “I think he’s thinking instead of reacting. I didn’t think he was very good the other night. But I’m not sure if it was because he wasn’t very good or because maybe he’s just not really reacting the way that he will, we know, over time as he gets real comfortable.”
Storr and the Jayhawks will have an opportunity to bounce back from the sluggish performance on Monday, November 4th, at 7:00 p.m. vs. Howard.
