Arizona State Updates Sam Leavitt’s Availability vs. Oklahoma State

ASU quarterback Sam Leavitt (10) looks for a receiver during a game against Wyoming at Mountain America Stadium on Aug. 31, 2024, in Tempe.

According to head coach Kenny Dillingham, Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt will return to the field on Saturday when the Sun Devils take on Oklahoma State in Stillwater.

The redshirt freshman has a 5-1 record as a starter and has completed just under 60% of his attempts on the season for 1,166 yards and eight touchdowns with four interceptions. He’s also added 279 yards (5.1 ypc) and four rushing scores on the year — second only on the team to Cam Skattebo.

Leavitt reportedly suffered a rib injury against Utah on October 11 and exited the game for a short period before returning and playing through it.

After finishing up that game, Leavitt would be forced to miss ASU’s Week 8 matchup against Cincinnati. Nebraska transfer Jeff Sims started in his place and threw for 155 yards and ran for another 53 against the Bearcats. Unfortunately, the Sun Devils would come up short, losing 24-14 on the road.

However, after resting up during the bye and getting back to practice this week, Leavitt is ready to roll.

Arizona State’s Week 10 matchup with Oklahoma State is of the upmost importance to both of these programs.

For the Sun Devils, a win would get them to bowl eligibilty, but it would also help them keep pace in the Big 12 title hunt heading into the final month of the season.

Oklahoma State, on the other hand, needs to win this game if they want to have a realistic shot at keeping their 18-year bowling streak alive. A loss would drop the Pokes to 3-6 (0-6 Big 12) and would force them to have to win their final three games just to get to bowl eligibility.

The Cowboys and Sun Devils are scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. CT kick on FS1, with Arizona State being favored by three points on the road.
