Scott Satterfield and Cincinnati have had a better year than most expected in 2024, entering Week 10 with a 5-3 record and still plenty of opportunity to get bowl eligible.
Unfortunately, the Bearcats got some bad news on Friday that may not affect them in the short term, but it stings for the future.
Benny Patterson, a four-star defensive lineman in the 2025 class, announced on Friday that he would flip his commitment from Cincinnati to Michigan. Patterson had been committed to Cincy since April and originally chose UC over Northern Illinois, Toledo and Texas Tech.
The 6-foot-3, 245-pound DL from Newburgh, Indiana, is the 17th commitment for Sherrone Moore’s 2025 class, which ranks 14th nationally after his addition.
Patterson was one of the top-rated players in Cincinnati’s class, which now ranks 60th nationally and 13th in the Big 12.
The Bearcats will need to pivot to fill the void left by Patterson’s flip, but do still have a pair of 2025 DL commits in Jeremiah Kelly and Cordarrll McFee.
Cincinnati is off this week and will return to action in Week 11 when they host West Virginia.
