Utah QB Transfer Done for the Year

NCAA Football: Utah Spring Game

While many have wondered about the status of one of Utah’s offseason transfer portal pickups, head coach Kyle Whittingham cleared the air on Friday with a major injury update.

Whittingham announced that former Washington quarterback Sam Huard had an injury that required season-ending surgery.

“Kyle Whittingham just revealed that Sam Huard had surgery for an injury and is out for the season,” KSLSportsZone’s Jake Hatch said. “That is why Huard is and will not be part of the conversation when it comes to the QB battle that Utah has going between Isaac Wilson and Brandon Rose.”

Coming out of Kennedy Catholic in the Class of 2021, Huard was listed as a five-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 12th-ranked prospect. He also checked in as the third-ranked player at his position and the third-ranked player in the state of Washington.

Ward has played for two programs in his collegiate career, Washington and Cal Poly. Huard didn’t see much action for the Huskies in his two seasons but bounced back in a massive way as the main signal caller for the Cal Poly Mustangs. In 2023, the Washington native completed 185 passes for 2,205 yards with a touchdown to interception ratio of 18-10.

Unfortunately for Utah, Huard is set to miss the 2024 season as the team continues to deal with issues at the quarterback position.
