One member of West Virginia’s transfer portal class is dealing with an upper-body injury according to head coach Darian DeVries.

That player is Detroit Mercy transfer Jayden Stone, who DeVries expects to be out for “a period of time.”

Stone was one of the nation’s top scorers in 2023-24 at Detroit Mercy, averaging 20.8 points per game on 42.2% shooting from the field. He also averaged 5.6 rebounds per game and 2.7 assists per game.

Coming out of Sunrise Christian in the Class of 2020, the Kansas native elected to enroll at Grand Canyon University. He spent two seasons with the blank, averaging 3.4 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.8 assists. Stone checked in on the 247Sports index as a three-star prospect, the nation’s 256th-ranked player, the 27th-ranked player at his position, and the third-ranked player in the state of Kansas.

Stone is one of eight transfers brought in by new head coach Darian DeVries after a brutal 2023-24 season under interim coach Josh Eilert. He is joined in Morgantown by Tucker DeVries, Amani Hansberry, Sencire Harris, Javon Small, Eduardo Andre, Joseph Yesufu, and Toby Okani.

West Virginia takes the court for the first time in 2024-25 on Monday, November 4th, at 6:00 p.m. CT, vs. Robert Morris.
