Class of 2025 five-star prospect Darryn Peterson made his college commitment to Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks on Friday.
Peterson made the announcement on CBS Sports HQ. Peterson is the No. 3 recruit in 247Sports’ prospect rankings and the No. 1 combo guard in the class. He ultimately chose the Jayhawks over Ohio State, Kansas State and USC. Peterson is the first commitment for the Jayhawks in this cycle.
The Prolific Prep (California) product is the highest-rated recruit in the 2025 cycle to commit so far and the first commitment for KU in its 2025 class.
Peterson’s commitment could also help KU attract other big-name recruits such as No. 1 prospect AJ Dybantsa, who is also considering in-state rival Kansas State. Plus, there’s Top 20 recruit Bryson Tiller, who visited KU for a third time last month and has the Jayhawks in his Final 4.
The Kansas Jayhawks enter the 2024-25 college basketball season as the Preseason No. 1 in the AP Poll, returning several veteran players Dajuan Harris, Shakeel Moore and Zeke Mayo all in their final year of eligibility.

According to 247Sports, Peterson is “a big guard with good positional size, length, and strength. He’s 6-foot-5, with a 6-foot-10 wingspan, and a cut-up and defined frame. What differentiates him most though is an effortless ability to score and make plays from a variety of spots on the floor, all within the flow of the game. Peterson is extremely versatile. He’s a true combo guard who is equally effective playing on or off the ball.”
