While the 2024 college football season may not have gone according to plan for the Kansas Jayhawks, it’s hard to look past the bright future in Lawrence.
On Monday, one former SEC athlete jumped on board through the transfer portal, making the change from South Carolina to Kansas.
That player is senior linebacker Bengally Kamara, and prior to joining Kansas, he spent four seasons at Pittsburgh and one season at South Carolina. In his five-year career, the Ohio native recorded 124 tackles, four sacks, one interception, and eight pass breakups.
Coming out of East High School in the Class of 2020, Kamara was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 579th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 21st-ranked player at his position and the eighth-ranked player in the state of Ohio.
While the Ohio native is still a year out from suiting up for Kansas on the gridiron, his presence is a much-needed addition. Kansas’ defense has been a relatively middle-of-the-pack unit in 2024.
As noted by ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the verbal commitment to Kansas made Kamara the first player to commit in the upcoming transfer portal cycle. He marks an impressive start to the 2025 transfer portal class for Lance Leipold and company.
