Utah Football Player: ‘F*** BYU, Man’

NCAA Football: Utah Spring Game

It’s Holy War week in Utah and the BYU-Utah rivalry now takes a new step as a conference game in the Big 12. Utah is new to the Big 12 this season, while BYU is playing in its second year in the new-look league.

But the hatred between the two programs runs deep, no matter what league they’re playing in. That was on display on Monday when Utah running back Jaylon Glover, who was asked about BYU week and simply said, “Excuse my language but f*** BYU, man. I’ve never been a part of the Holy War, but I’m excited now. Looking forward to the opportunity to be out there and go fight and battle with the guys and keep our streak going, man. We gotta go beat them boys down south and I’m excited to be a part of it.”

The Florida native has played sparingly this season, with four carries in the opener, then spending several weeks on the bench, before returning in a loss to Houston two weeks ago when he had four carries for 33 yards. Last season, Glover played in all 13 games, recording 137 carries for 562 yards and two touchdowns, also adding seven catches for 67 yards.

All-time, Utah leads the series over BYU 59-32-4. The first meeting came in 1922 when Utah won 49-0 in their largest margin of victory ever in the series. BYU’s largest margin of victory was a 56-6 win in 1980.

The longest winning streak for BYU came from 1979 to 1987, a nine-game winning streak, to match Utah’s nine-game winning streak later in the series from 2010 to 2019. During that stretch, the two teams did not play during the 2014 college football season.
