It’s no secret that things haven’t gone according to plan for Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State Cowboys in 2024. After returning Doak Walker Award winner Ollie Gordon, along with 21 of 22 total starters from last year’s team, the expectation was that OSU would play itself into its second consecutive Big 12 Championship appearance and its third in four seasons.
Instead, Oklahoma State has been one of the most disappointing teams in college football. If it weren’t for the debacle that we’re seeing in Tallahassee — Florida State has gone 1-8 through nine games — the Pokes would be the single biggest disappointment in the country in 2024.
After a 3-0 start, which included a double-overtime win over Arkansas, Oklahoma State has lost six consecutive games, and hasn’t won a single Big 12 contest this season. In fact, their last win over a Big 12 team was their 40-34 overtime win over BYU on November 25, 2023.
It’s the worst start in Big 12 play of Mike Gundy’s career, and the unprecedented struggles could get even worse before the season is over.
With a 3-6 record overall, the Pokes can’t afford another loss if they hope to keep their hopes for a bowl game — or a winning season — alive.
As Action Network’s Brett McMurphy points out, one more loss would snap the longest active streak of winning seasons by an FBS coach.
Not only is it the longest active streak in the country, it’s the eighth longest streak of its kind in college football history.
With TCU (-12.5) being a double-digit favorite this weekend, plus Texas Tech and Colorado remaining after that, there’s a real chance that OSU goes 0-9 in Big 12 play and finishes with a 3-9 record.
No wonder Oklahoma State fans are so upset.
