A storyline surfaced late in the week before the Texas Tech vs. Colorado game centered around whether or not Colorado was willing to partake in a “Celebrate America” themed shirt from Red Raider Outfitter.
According to Stephen Spiegelberg, owner of the Red Raider Outfitter, he had mentioned that the design and preparation for themes, including the “Celebrate America” game, begins months in advanced. While Texas Tech’s athletic department immediately approved the request, Colorado responded with two words: “not interested.”
After Colorado rejected the idea, a university spokesperson responded to the story Thursday evening with an official statement to clear up the report.
“We get requests to use our marks and often decline for any number of reasons. In this case, the decision was unrelated to the “Celebrate America” theme. Our standards are consistently applied and are based on widely accepted licensing and trademark best practices used by national and global brands.“
Colorado has insisted this has nothing to do with being against the American flag.
Shedeur Sanders Responds
After Colorado beat Texas Tech 41-27 on Saturday afternoon, CU quarterback Shedeur Sanders was asked about this controversy.

He said, “That’s sick…Y’all just fishing for content at this point, That was very disturbing. It’s genuine people out there that read the media that don’t know us and they believe the lies and the narrative. And some people may not have the chance to really understanding what’s going on in the situation.”
For the record, the money raised by Red Raider Outfitter goes to a local initiative called “Momument of Courage” which helps give back to military veterans and those in need.
As for the game, Colorado beat Texas Tech to improve to 5-1 in the Big 12 and control their destiny. If CU wins out its finals three games, the Buffaloes will be in the Big 12 Championship Game on December 7th.
