Big Ten Staffer, Former NFL Coach Arrested for Drunk Driving

NCAA Football: Western Kentucky at Wisconsin

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg unveiled quite the story on Monday morning as he reported that Wisconsin football staffer Jack Del Rio was arrested for DUI on Friday.

The former NFL head coach joined the Badgers’ staff as a “Senior Advisor to the Head Coach,” where he works with head coach Luke Fickell.

“Wisconsin staff member Jack Del Rio, the former NFL coach, was arrested early Friday for operating while intoxicated after a car he was driving hit a street sign and broke a fence. He ‘showed signs of impairment,’ per Madison police. No injuries were reported,” Rittenberg posted on X.

According to Rittenberg, Wisconsin is aware of the situation and has addressed it with the following statement:

“We take matters like this very seriously and we are continuing to gather information.”

Prior to joining the Wisconsin staff, Del Rio most recently served as the defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders from 2020-23. Before that, Del Rio served as the head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars (2003-11) and the Oakland Raiders (2015-17).

The distraction couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Badgers, either. Wisconsin is currently 5-4 (3-3) on the season and is gearing up to host No. 1 Oregon in its penultimate home game of the 2024 season.
