On Tuesday, Darian DeVries and the West Virginia Mountaineers basketball team added a new player in the Class of 2025, a four-star prospect from SoCal Academy.
That player is Trent MacLean, who chose the Mountaineers over SMU on a 247Sports live commitment.
An impressive player in his class, MacLean received offers from eight different programs, including St. Bonaventure, Rutgers, Arizona State, Loyola Marymount, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, and Saint Mary’s.
Coming out of SoCal Academy in the Class of 2025, MacLean is listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 142nd-ranked prospect. He also checks in as the 28th-ranked player at his position and the 15th-ranked player in the state of California.
“MacLean is a late-blooming perimeter forward who appears to be on the verge of a major ascension,” 247Sports’ Adam Finkelstein said. “Best described as a stretch-four from a positional standpoint. He has a terrific combination of size at 6-foot-9 and skill. He shoots it very well from the perimeter, with a soft touch and good loft on his ball. He has clear gravity as a spot-up threat, is valuable in pick-and-pop action, and, most recently, is progressing into a true movement shooter who can come off screens and make tough shots.”
With his commitment, MacLean became the third prospect to join West Virginia alongside four-star SF Kelvin Odih and three-star SF Braydon Hawthorne.
