The 2024 season has not got as planned for Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners, as they find themselves sitting at 5-5 (1-5 SEC) in their first year in the SEC.
To put things into context, Oklahoma hasn’t missed a bowl game since the 1998 season, and unless they find a way to upset either Alabama or LSU, they’ll do just that.
Given how tough a season Oklahoma has experienced, there’s a contingentof the fanbase that feels like it might be time to hit the reset button on the Venables’ era, no matter what that might mean for the immediate future. Meanwhile, there’s another portion of the fanbase that feels at least one more season is reasonable, and with how OU has performed on the recruiting trail, they’ve got nowhere to go but up.
It’s not abnormal to see recruiting classes start to fall apart in times of hardship like the Sooners are facing, and OU fans are getting antsy as some of the top players in the country are currently committed to play in Norman.
One of the biggest names, and the proverbial anchor of OU’s 2025 class, is five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi.
According to Rivals, Fasusi is the No. 12 overall prospect in the 2025 class, as well as the No. 2 overall tackle in the country. With Oklahoma struggling, rumors of a potential flip to Texas or Texas A&M have been tossed around. However, Fasusi has put those rumors to bed, according to OUInsider.
Fasusi not only said that he’s locked in with Oklahoma, but that the other guys in the 2025 class aren’t wavering, either.
Finally, some good news for the Sooners. It might be short-lived, though, as OU will face Alabama out of the bye week before closing out the season against LSU in Baton Rouge (LA).
