While the Kansas Jayhawks are currently listed as the nation’s top-ranked team, one player facing some criticism from the fanbase is senior forward KJ Adams.
Adams, a four-year veteran in Self’s system, has been catching some heat on social media, which prompted Self to comment on the backlash.
“Our fans think about what he doesn’t do? I would agree with our fans; yeah, he can get more rebounds; he could be a better screener,” Self said. “I disagree with everybody else. He’s as valuable as any player we’ve ever had here. I mean, he is a stud.”
Adams has been solid in 2024-25, averaging 9.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists. His teammate, Dajuan Harris, has had a similar treatment, with fans asking for the duo to come off of the bench in favor of some of the Jayhawks’ new transfer portal additions.
“Our fans almost say the same thing about Juan [Dajuan Harris],” Self continued. “And you know what I would say about that? ‘Juan, you know how to win better than anybody else knows how to tell you to win. Do what you do. That’s how I feel about KJ, too.”
Regardless, Bill Self and the Jayhawks have compiled a 3-0 record in a tough schedule. They return to action on Saturday, November 16th, vs. Oakland.
