Thursday night didn’t go the way Jerome Tang and Kansas State hoped it would, as the Wildcats fell to LSU at home, 76-65.
The Cats couldn’t overcome a cold shooting night in the Bramlage Coliseum, shooting just 37.7% from the field while LSU managed to shoot 50% on the night.
The loss leaves Kansas State with a 2-1 record through three games, while LSU moved to 3-0 with the victory as an 8.5-point underdog.
The frustrating performance obviously didn’t sit well with the Wildcats, and after the game, emotions ran high between K-State’s Coleman Hawklins and LSU’s Cam Carter as the two teams prepared to leave the court.
Carter played 34 games for Tang and the Wildcats last season, and had great night in his return to Manhattan, with 20 points, four rebounds, and two assists in 34 minutes last night.
Both players had to be restrained from one another, while LSU senior reserve Adam Benhayoune clapped at Hawkins as both teams parted ways.
It was a less-than-fortunate situation for Tang and the Wildcats, and after the game, the K-State head coach addressed facing his former player.
“I love Cam Carter, and I’m so thankful for what he’s given to K-State,” Tang said. “It actually was a little bit more emtional than I thought it was going to be, you know, to see him and stuff. It sucked watching him play, that’s the truth. I’m happy for him. He gets to play at home, his family gets to see him play.
“I felt like he gave us a lot while he was here, and I felt like I gave him a lot while he was here. I’ll be a cheerleader for him the rest of the way.”
Tang and the Wildcats will be back in action against Mississippi Valley State next Tuesday night.
