On Friday morning, during an episode of ESPN’s First Take, former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton spoke on the future of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders.
After leading Colorado to a Top 25 ranking and a 7-2 overall record, Sanders has generated a vast amount of talk regarding a move to join a new college football program.
“I’m gonna tell you what is a good look, I do believe, for Prime, is Florida State University,” Newton said. “It makes the most sense. Because not only would you have the time to build a foundation, you have more resources than, respectfully, Colorado. I’m looking at one coach who stands out at Florida State and could potentially be — build a legacy. Bobby Bowden, right?”
Bowden, the former head coach of the Seminoles, coached Sanders during his four-year career at Florida State from 1985-1988. While connections have been made for Sanders to make the leap to the NFL as the next head coach for the Dallas Cowboys, the possibility of him joining his alma mater is somewhat likely. With Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders, and Shilo Sanders all likely done with Colorado, focused on NFL futures, the move for Sanders has been a growing topic.
“I don’t think [Sanders] would have the same timeframe in Dallas,” Newton continued. “Mike McCarthy, four years, on the bubble. Jason Garrett, nine years, his quarterbacks: Dak Prescott, Matt Cassel, Tony Romo, Jon Kitna, wow. Wade Phillips, three years. In this day and age, everything has changed. We want right now results, but we don’t have time to wait for nothing. We want a Thanksgiving meal with microwave resources.”
While Mike Norvell remains employed at Florida State, his team is 1-9 overall and needs a major change. That change just may be Coach Prime.
