Big 12 Fans: You Can Officially Bail on College GameDay and Turn to Big Noon Kickoff

Syndication: The Columbus Dispatch

For college football fans, there has always been a debate when it comes to which pregame show to watch. ESPN has College GameDay, while FOX has Big Noon Kickoff. I must admit that I have been a College GameDay guy for as long as I can remember. It’s what I grew up watching. However, recently I have noticed that I have been finding myself watching Big Noon Kickoff more often than not.

Maybe it’s because Big Noon Kickoff actually goes to Big 12 venues, unlike College GameDay. In fact, I couldn’t remember the last time GameDay went to a Big 12 venue and when I looked, I couldn’t have been more disappointed. It’s been over two years since the GameDay crew went to an actual Big 12 stadium. On October 8th, 2022, they were in Lawrence, Kansas for the Kansas vs. TCU game.

It’s no secret that there is a lack of respect for the Big 12 Conference when it comes to the national media. Between the College Football Playoff committee and the talking heads on ESPN, there’s the SEC and Big Ten. Then there’s fifty feet of crap, then there’s the Big 12. To simply put it, the conference we all love is nothing but an afterthought in the eyes of ESPN.

On Saturday, College GameDay did a great job of proving my point. At the end of the episode, the College GameDay crew made its picks for the day’s biggest games. When host Reece Davis introduced the Arizona State vs. Kansas State game, Desmond Howard couldn’t believe the game was even on the slate.

“I saw that on the rundown,” Howard said. “I was like, ‘Why are we picking this game?’ I thought it was a mistake,” And when it came to the pick, Desmond had quite the breakdown saying, “Kansas State, I guess.”

First of all, you guess? That’s all you had to say, Desmond? You make all that money at ESPN to cover college football, and you give an answer like that. Secondly, if you are wondering why you are picking the Arizona State vs. Kansas State game maybe it’s due to the fact that it’s one of the biggest games this weekend, not just in the Big 12, but in all of college football.

Why Kansas State vs. Arizona State Matters

It’s a matchup between two 7-2 teams who are still right in the mix for a Big 12 title and here Desmond Howard is acting like it’s not worthy to be on their picks. Well, Desmond, did you see the SEC slate this weekend? There are teams playing Mercer, Murray State, ULM, and New Mexico State. Would you rather pick those games instead? I bet you would have a better answer than “I guess.” And does anything in their right mind think that he would be willing to say that about a pair of two loss SEC teams playing each other? I don’t think so.

I am so sick and tired of ESPN disrespecting the Big 12. It’s bad enough I see morons on that network saying that we shouldn’t be surprised to see a three-loss SEC team in the playoff and not even wasting a breath on the Big 12.

It’s gotten to the point where you can’t even blink during College GameDay because if you do you might miss them talking about the Big 12. During a three-hour show, you would be lucky to get ten minutes worth of Big 12 talk on GameDay.

I am not one to advertise for FOX, but once again, they are actually willing to go to Big 12 venues. In fact, they have been to multiple Big 12 game this season. And the best part? It’s that they actually talk about other games outside of the Big Ten and SEC. They understand that there are actual football fans outside of those two conferences. I guess ESPN never got that memo.
