ESPN FPI’s New Conference Championship Projections Entering Week 13

Syndication: Austin American-Statesman

After a Week 12 slate that included multiple notable upsets, ESPN released some updated projections on the Big 12 Championship Game.

The projections feature four teams fighting for Arlington, including Colorado, BYU, Arizona State, and Iowa State.

In the updated look, Colorado leads all Big 12 teams with a 42.5% chance of making it to Arlington. Following the Buffaloes are the 9-1 BYU Cougars at 26.89%, then Arizona State at 17.7%, and Iowa State at 11.3%.

Heading into the season, zero of the four teams above received first-place votes to win the Big 12, as BYU was picked to finish 13th, Colorado to finish 11th, Arizona State to finish 16th, and Iowa State to finish sixth. The top five was filled with Utah (4-6), Kansas State (7-3), Oklahoma State (3-7), Kansas (4-6), and Arizona (4-6).

BYU had an opportunity in Week 12 to clench a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game with a win over Kansas, however, the Jayhawks had a different plan. Lance Leipold’s squad has been scorching hot over the past few games, coming off of back-to-back Top 25 upset wins.

While the odds may favor Colorado and BYU, in a conference like the Big 12, anything is possible down the stretch.
