As the topic of the Deion Sanders coaching sweepstakes continues to captivate most major media outlets, one individual pushing back on Sanders leaving Colorado is Athletic Director Rick George.
George spoke on the rumors of Sanders departing the program in a recent podcast appearance and commended Coach Prime for his loyalty to Colorado.
“I think there’s a lot of people out there that want want to say that he’s jumping in Boulder then he’s out of here,” George said. “Deion’s not going anywhere. The guy’s committed here, and he’s just getting started.”
Deion Sanders’ name has popped up in just about every high-level coaching search this season after leading the red-hot Buffaloes to an incredible start. The list of opportunities mainly includes NFL openings like the Dallas Cowboys and collegiate opportunities at his alma mater, Florida State,
“I feel really good about our relationship and his love of Boulder, our tradition here, and the community that’s embraced him back,” George continued. “Have he and I had conversations? Yes. We haven’t gone into details about what an extension looks like, but we’ve certainly had conversations.”
The Buffaloes have a massive game against another surging football team in Week 13, with a road game at Arrowhead Stadium vs. the Kansas Jayhawks. That game kicks off on Saturday, November 23rd, at 2:30 p.m. CT.
