A total of four Big 12 teams appeared in the third College Football Playoff Top 25 for 2024 when it was released on Tuesday night.
This season will introduce the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff format, including the five highest-ranked conference champions and seven at-large teams.
Here’s a look at where the Big 12 teams rank in the latest rankings, courtesy of the College Football Playoff committee.
BYU (9-1) came in at No. 14, falling eight spots from No. 6 after a 17-14 loss to Kansas on Saturday. Kalani Sitake and the Cougars will try to get back on track this weekend, but it won’t be easy as they’ll be on the road at Arizona State (8-2), which just broke into the committee’s rankings at No. X after their 24-14 win over Kansas State this past weekend.
Colorado (8-2) climbed to No. 16 this week after taking care of business with a 49-24 win over Utah this past weekend. After the game, Kyle Whittingham shared that he felt Colorado was the best team he’d faced all season, and now just a few spots behind BYU, the Buffs are in prime position for a Big 12 Championship appearance.
Iowa State (8-2) got back into the Top 25 after a one-week hiatus, coming in at No. X after a 34-17 win over Cincinnati. While they’ll still need a little bit of help, Matt Campbell’s group can still make a run to Arlington.
Arizona State (8-2) appeared in the Top 25 College Football Playoff rankings for the first time, coming in at No. 21, following their win in Manhattan, Kansas over K-State on Saturday night. This is the first time since 2014 that Arizona State has been ranked by the College Football Playoff committee.
Finally, after their third season loss, Kansas State (7-3) has fallen out of the rankings and is out of the Big 12 Championship and College Footbal Playoff pictures, barring chaos of the likes we’ve never seen before.
