With former Arizona State quarterback Jayden Daniels leaving the program and winning the Heisman Trophy shortly after, understandably, Sun Devils fans have been a little bit concerned about player retention.
This offseason, Jaden Rashada left the program for Georgia, which allowed for the emergence of freshman star Sam Leavitt.
On Tuesday, Leavitt’s father, Jared, discussed his son’s long-term college plans, saying, “He’s definitely here to stay.”
When asked about the early success of his son, Jared Leavitt noted, “He 100% believed this would happen. He had already decided that before he ever came to campus, that was going to happen. Before he came, he already knew he was going to win the job. He already expects to be the very best in the country and be a first-round draft pick.”
This fall, Leavitt has led his team to an 8-2 overall record, with a serious shot at playing for the Big 12 Championship. In his nine career games, Leavitt has thrown for 1,906 yards with a touchdown to interception ratio of 17-4. He also holds the nation’s 20th-best QBR (quarterback rating).
“Sam knows that all of this stuff is going to be available at ASU,” Leavitt continued. “Because of this special thing that they’ve got going. It’s here at ASU. He doesn’t need to go anywhere else, and he’s not going to. This is going to be home. He’s definitely here to stay.”
