Is West Virginia Making Plans to Move On From Neal Brown After 2024?

NCAA Football: North Carolina State at West Virginia

The West Virginia Mountaineers have turned in another disappointing year under Neal Brown; at least, that’s the case with just two games left in the 2024 season.

Brown entered the 2023 season on the hot seat before turning in a 9-4 campaign and earning a lot of trust back with the fanbase and administration. Now, with a 5-5 record through 10 games, Brown’s seat is back to being warm, and the demands for change are loud once again.

With those demands, the rumors and speculation have fired up as well, and one particular rumor has caught the eye of WVU fans all over the country.

On Wednesday evening, @247_Collective shared this on X, formerly known as Twitter.

While this account isn’t officially tied to the West Virginia program, it has gotten several things right in the past, and the connection between Barry Odom and WVU athletic director Wren Baker is legitimate.

The Mountaineers would be wise to go after Odom should they move on from Brown, but is there any truth to this at the moment?

It seems unlikely, as Brown is still the active head coach and WVU could still win eight games this season if they get to a bowl. While 8-4 isn’t exactly a reason to start doing somersaults, it’s probably not worthy of getting Brown fired, either.

However, if West Virginia were to lose this week against UCF and fall to 5-6, it might start getting awfully uncomfortable in the coaches’ offices.

If that happens, Odom would be a homerun candidate for the job; but until that time comes, it’s probably more smoke than fire with this one.
